Projects in Puerto Cabezas
The goal of the Puerto Cabezas assessment trip was to gather information and decide on a project to implement in May of 2015. The team was able to gather enough information and data on three potential projects in Puerto Cabezas. The focus of the data was collection of GPS information, current water conditions, and need from the community.
Three areas of focus were prevalent from the beginning: the Verbos Orphanage and the Verbos School, the feeding center, and the community of Betania. After three days of data and information collection, the team ranked the projects on many aspects including feasibility, cost, and need. After comparison of all three factors for each area, the team decided to begin with the orphanage. The orphanage has a feeding and distribution center that provides for 600 kids in the community. The current distribution system and feeding center are in need of major repairs and reworking. The second area the team looked at was the school in the city that is currently undergoing major construction and renovation. The school is currently unsuitable for use. The final area investigated was the community of Betania, where minor changes to the existing tank system were made. The plan for the upcoming semester is to create a multi-phase master plan for the Betania community, because it’s a very large area to tackle. The video link below shows the community of Betania and the city of Puerto Cabezas.
